Efrat Livny - Cancer Stories Exhibitor.

Efrat Livny lives and works in Madison, Wisconsin. Born and raised in Israel where her roots continue to run deep, she developed a deep love for nature, for the magic of things found along the way, and for the way they can come together to create art.

With degrees in Fine Arts and English (B.A.), in Horticulture (B.Sc.) and in Library and Information Science (MLS) along with a great deal of serendipity, her career took her first to the multifaceted and fast-evolving field of biotechnology. After a decade and half of supporting researchers at the UW Madison by developing new ways to obtain, organize and share information across barriers of disciplines, languages and applications, she felt the old calling of her hands and her heart to create. Since 1997 Massage Therapy and artistic creations have become the rich tapestry of her vocation and life.

In 2001 Efrat was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. Her cancer journey with all its pain and challenge has been a portal to new ways of living, of creating and of participating. She considers herself not a “survivor” but a “graduate” of cancer, feeling deeply enriched and so very grateful for this life, moment by moment. She supports people living with cancer through bodywork and as a Healing Guide, companioning them on their cancer journey and helping them make choices that support healing of body, mind and soul.

Efrat’s mixed media work utilizes natural and recycled objects, many of which are gathered in her daily wanderings and her travels throughout the world. Her artistic creations bring together objects from many cultures allowing them to find and reveal their unique aesthetic and energetic relationship. Her art is part of her spiritual path and is inspired by the wisdom and aesthetic traditions of several cultures, primarily the Middle East, Native American, Shamanism and Buddhism. Her work is created to deepen awareness, to promote self-discovery and self-empowerment, and to encourage understanding and embracing of others.
