β€œIn a truly grounded, locally adapted culture, the artists would be the rememberers. They would memorialize great occasions, preserve necessary insights and so on.”

– Wendell Berry

Founded in 2008 by Talish Barrow, Mike Lawler, and Christina Martin-Wright, Wisconsin Story Project has set out to create a collective of artists dedicated to a core set of values:

  • Engage the residents of Wisconsin through the creative use of storytelling

  • Create viable employment opportunities for Wisconsin artists

  • Create events that will directly benefit Wisconsin communities by raising funds for other nonprofit organizations

  • Provide a creative and open environment for Wisconsinites to share their experience

  • Provide accessible cultural and arts-centered events for Wisconsin communities

  • Create a more sustainable model of production for the performing arts

Wisconsin Story Project also believes strongly in localization – that means we want to not only tell local, Wisconsin-bred stories that matter to the people of this region, but that we also know that it is more important than ever to support the local, Wisconsin economy. The artists that work in this state are an important part of our economy, and continue to contribute in significant ways. WSP needs your support to create work that is relevant while providing employment and income to our regional artists.
